The United States of America, a notorious nation of prosperity and opportunity but is more divided than the red sea. The country’s last unison was over a disaster that changed the world, September 11th, 2001, and even then, the country still had its divisions. After this event? A young and silent generation grew up in the aftermath of 9/11, a generation that has never seen the United States be genuinely united. Politics run the country and have become a personality trait with politicians spilling lies — Democrats vs. Republicans, Blue vs. Red, Communism vs. Fascism. People argue online about their political beliefs but do not think of their effect on everyone. Students clash with their peers at school, all for the sake of educational entertainment. This division starts young and is promoted by parents and schools. Children as young as five are going to protests and arguing for and against human rights, but they are too young to know why. Seniors in High School argue in Government class about politics, but politics are not’ supposed to affect those under the age of voting. This division is rooted in our society; it makes our personality traits, it is what you talk about at the family dinner over a pot roast. A country that is divided due to the political climate, but division isn’t supposed to happen in the United States of America. A nation created by the unity of poor farmers kicking out the strongest army because of unfairness. A country that united together to end nazism in the Atlantic. A nation that mourned the death of 3,000 people from terrorist attacks in Virginia and New York. Yet this unity has fallen, and division has taken its place. The dangerous confusion between patriotism and nationalism, the second amendment’s miscomprehension, the controversial illegalization/legalization of abortion. These politics further divide this nation. Many Americans claim that the United States is the best country globally, yet we only lead the world in military spending. We value our independence, yet we rank twenty-seventh in the world for freedom. How can a country be the best, not even rank number one in its most important value? The division in the country is one of shame and disappointment. Yet, we do nothing but sit and watch as we slowly become more divided. The world watches as one of the most powerful nations, rips apart by its seams. We need to unite as one, stop with the political agreements, and become a united country like our founding fathers intended it to be. Come together as one so that we can tell our children, and our children’s children, what it was like to be in the country united again. A country where politics isn’t a personality trait, a country with unity restored. Or else, we will just leave the United States of America behind and become the States of America.
